Back to School with CEG!
August is the month of planning for the new school year and 2016 Solar Scholarship recipients Alexandra Macdonald and Emma Bishop are preparing for some higher education with thanks for the support from project donors and local solar energy. Emma is going to Quest University in Squamish, BC and Alexandra will be taking a year to work, volunteer and travel before pursuing Engineering, as well as International Development or Environmental Studies at UBC. Congratulations again girls!
Solar electricity is in full production right now -the GISS Solar Scholarship array is continually creating revenue for scholarships with over 46,000kWh generated to date, (enough for almost 5 houses for one year). Make sure to have a look at the production display in the Multi-room the next time you are at Gulf Islands Secondary School.
And more congratulations are due, this time to Golden Tree Farm for the summer’s largest solar installation. With two array’s -a ground mount and the rooftop of a huge farm building- for a total of 60 kW Golden Tree has integrated local, on farm, energy with it’s food production. This is now the largest installation in the Gulf Islands, well done Golden Tree Farm!
And for the rest of us MLA Gary Holman invites you to an Open Community Forum on Energy and the Environment at the Salt Spring Public Library on Thursday, August 18 at 2:30pm-4:30pm. Gary’s colleague MLA George Heyman will be participating and they will be interested in the local perspective of these issues.
