Accelerating Pathways To Carbon Zero
April 20 – May 18, 2023
Salt Spring Community Energy’s 10-Year Anniversary Celebration
Salt Spring Community Energy started in 2013 with a goal to inspire our island for a rapid move to a clean energy economy. This Spring, we celebrate our 10-year anniversary with ‘Electrify Salt Spring!’ – a month of events exploring how renewable energies and emissions-free technologies can rapidly and efficiently change the future of our lives here in British Columbia’s Gulf Islands (not to mention the fate of the planet!).
What better way to explore this topic than to hear directly from Canada’s most respected science and technology communicator, Bob McDonald, host of CBC Radio’s Quirks and Quarks, and author of the new book: The Future is Now: Solving the Climate Crisis With Today’s Technologies. On Friday, May 5, at ArtSpring Theatre, Bob will speak about possibilities for a clean energy economy and reversing the climate crisis. We’ll have a Q & A period and Islanders will be able to meet Bob and buy his book.
The following day, May 6, Islanders will have opportunities to see the future of zero-emissions air flight when Harbour Air’s Electric Float Plane visits Salt Spring for the very first time!
The public will have opportunities to meet the crew and learn about the future of air travel for short haul flights.
On the May 6th afternoon, we will host a Public Forum at the GISS Multi-Purpose Room on Electrifying Issues for Salt Spring and BC, featuring a Panel with engineers from some of the most consequential energy infrastructure projects of the last 50yrs or more. This will be very interesting, and a great chance to hear from the experts. Thanks to Harbour Air, BC Ferries, and Bob McDonald for joining us.
We are also offering a series of four Library talks where we progress through multiple stages of energy literacy. Starting at energy monitoring, we then look at upgrades, home solar, and battery storage. Join us for all four and level up your energy game.
