I would like to thank Irene Wright of the Salt Spring
NDP Club for her letter to the editor of May 21
highlighting the ongoing fundraising campaign for the
GISS Solar Scholarship Project.
In her letter, Mrs. Wright challenges members of
other political parties to meet or beat her club’s continuing
support. On behalf of the BC Liberals of Salt
Spring Island, I would like to accept the challenge. I
myself have pledged to sponsor one panel, and
we will be contacting our Salt Spring membership to
request their further support.
Friendly competition in the name of a good cause
is a great thing! This program is admirable
in that it seeks to benefit the planet by utilizing solar
power, reduce fuel costs for the school district and provide
valuable scholarship funds for our local students.
All of those behind this initiative are to be commended,
but I would like to single out Grade 12 student
Sky Losier for appreciation as he took the time to meet
with me and explain the program and its many benefits.
Sky is a great ambassador for the program, our
school system and the Gulf Islands.
May the fundraising continue
