Event Details

The Electrifying Issues for Salt Spring and BC panel on May 6 at the GISS Multipurpose Room is a key component of the Electrify Salt Spring event series. This panel discussion will feature engineers, educators, and project directors who are working on some of the most consequential climate mitigation projects in our society. These projects are on the cusp of a new era in sustainable and climate-appropriate public transportation.

Some of the projects that will be discussed include Harbour Air’s ePlane, which is on a path to making aviation history. BC Ferries will also tell us about their ambitious fleet electrification plans. These experts are seeking alternatives to the GHG emitting fossil fuel powertrains that have served us for over 100 years but are now well understood to be the cause of the Climate Emergency. Non-emitting electric technologies that rely on high-capacity batteries, and their associated charging infrastructure, will reshape our world.

Guests:

    • Shawn Braiden, VP Maintenance AME, Dom/PRM (and GISS grad) Harbour Air
    • Erika Holtz, P. ENG., DAR #345 DAR / Certification & Engineering Services Harbour Air
    • Dr. Babak Manouchehrinia, BC Ferries Electrical Project Engineer
